Humpback Whales Breaching Off The SF Coast
Humpback Whales Breaching Off The SF Coast
Humpback whales migrate in the waters off of the San Francisco Bay, the Gulf of the Farallones Marine Sanctuary. Though they can sometimes be seen from the shore, you have a better chance of seeing them if you take a whale watching expedition out near the Farallon Islands to see them. Humpback whales are sometimes called the ballerinas of the sea. They are known to surface and lunge or appear to be leaping. If you get lucky sometimes you get a view of their water ballet. September and October are auspicious months to try. This is some older sfbayimages.com footage displaying hand-held camera work a crew member from a day where we were filming with professional gear for a show. It is an edited piece of a few leaps. Enjoy.
